Don't
you wish all "bugs" were as easy to uncover as the
moth that was found in the Harvard Mark II computer
by Grace Hopper and her team in 1944. When Grace
Hopper and her team found this bug, one would assume
that after she removed it, her team determined an
effective way to prevent this from happening again…
at least for a bug of this size. Once this bug was
found it was easy to remove it. However, most of us
would rather not have to worry about removing the
bugs. In fact, our preference would be not having
them show up in the first place.
Whether we
develop software to be used as part of commercial
applications or internal process and productivity
tools, we’ve learned that software defects are
inevitable. Another axiom that seems to remain
constant —the role and value of testing is
misunderstood by many in senior management.
Much of the focus associated with current testing
and quality assurance methods are centered on tools
and processes for finding and removing defects
quickly and efficiently. Volumes of scholarly
papers and books have been written on helping the
software engineer improve the quality of the code
being delivered, but what about prevention? With
every tool or methodology, there is usually a small
dose of recommendations, which imply prevention;
however, are they realistic and why haven't we seen
a significant change in the number of projects that
have issues with quality, delays, and cost?
As a supplier of software services and solutions,
this is a primary focus for us, as it will help us
to be a more effective and dependable partner to our
clients. We would like to invite you to an evening
of dinner and discussion, with an opportunity to
network with your peers and to share experiences,
while we try to raise the awareness of what can be
some innovative means to making improvements in
creating a predictable delivery process. Topics Presented:
